How I Changed My Life with 4 Simple Hacks

6 months ago my life was filled with pain and sadness. I was in a horrible relationship, I was completely broke and my business had zero clients. I was close to falling into a new depression when I made the decision to take small steps to make my days relatively manageable and stave off the impending depression I could feel coming for me.

From the moment I started taking these steps to improve the quality of my day, everything changed. One step led to one more step and then the dominos just started falling until my entire life was completely different.

If you are struggling with our current way of life and you can feel the pressure start to build, I recommend taking one small step a day, making one small change, starting with my first tip, to help you regain your sense of control and bring small moments of peace back into your world.

One small step can lead to an entire life change. Trust me.

HERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT HAVE HELPED ME REGAIN SOME SMALL SENSE OF PEACE AND I HOPE THEY HELP YOU TOO.

  1. Make your bed every morning – I learned this trick after reading Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris and it was the beginning of some big changes for me. Not only does it give me a sense of accomplishment as the first task of the day but it gives me a sense of calm every time I walk into my room. This one simple habit was the domino effect that has led to so many other life hacks that make my day-to-day homebound existence bearable.
  2. Meditate – I know I know. Everyone says to meditate but who’s got the time or patience to sit for a few minutes and just breathe? That’s exactly what I thought until I began my meditation practice. Now it’s an integral part of my morning routine. If you’re really invested in long-term meditation practice I recommend using the Calm app. It’s been such a valuable resource for me and I’ve gone from barely being able to sit still for 3 minutes to being able to do a 20-min meditation daily. To say that my life is changed is an understatement.
  3. Journal – Whether you take a few minutes a day to brain dump your anxiety or you have a more structured journaling practice makes little difference. The simple practice of getting your thoughts out of your head is wildly helpful for making it through the day with more peace.
  4. And finally, stretch – For a lot of people a daily yoga or exercise practice is something they can’t do without but even with all the other amazing habits I’ve built, daily exercise is still just out of my reach. So until that one catches up with me, I stretch. If you’re like me and exercise is still on your wish list instead of your to-do list, I recommend taking a few minutes a day to do some deep stretching. It loosens the tension in your body and generally just feels good.

About 6 months ago I started making my bed and bought the Calm app and I’m not saying these actions were the REASON my life changed, but since then I have not only created an entirely new life but I’ve been more happy and successful than I ever imagined, even in the midst of this lockdown. So these things might not change your whole life, but they could be the first step to taking the actions you’ve been wanting to take to do so.
